Description

Company Name: Bennett X_ray

This adjustable mammography breast compression plate was conceived and designed for Bennett X-Ray to replace a previously cumbersome device with similar functionality. Bennett’s marketing department described the need for an adjustable breast compression plate that appeared non-threatening and was easily adjusted by a technician. Integrated Design documented the degrees of freedom, their limits of motion, preferred method of attachment to the mammography scanner and preferred method of operation.  The product shown was eventually developed to simply slip into the X-ray scanner and lock into position. After being placed over the breast, the technician simply pressed the rear of the clear compression plate to rotate it to the desired angle. When it was depressed to its desired angle it was simply let go and was locked in position.  Rotation about the other axis could also be achieved by simply rotating the device and locking it in position with one of the two rear buttons. The middle button released the breast plate at any time.
