Telephonics is the world's leading manufacturer of earphones for audiometrics. In fact, Telephonics' TDH-series earphones are the acoustic reference standard for the audiometric industry and are widely used in hearing tests to deliver precision sound replication. These headphones were designed by Integrated Design Systems to comply with stringent regulatory requirements pertaining to forces exerted on the ears when the headphones were separated a specific distance apart.
Integrated Design applied non-linear finite element analysis to the development of a custom designed and tempered spring steel band which was a major element in the overall functional and aesthetic design. Unlike conventional headphones, these audiophones were designed with a multitude of adjustments in all three axes. Integration of form and function within the sophisticated plastic ear cups permitted the development team to cost effectively attain the desired objectives.
