DVIA (Bayer ADVIA) is an automated random-access immunoassay system from Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics. Bayer HealthCare's Diagnostic Division, is now a division of Siemens. ADVIA provides a comprehensive testing for infectious diseases, thyroid, fertility and anemia, as well as assays for cancer makers, cardiac analysis, allergy testing and therapeutic drug monitoring. With the combination of perceptive design and advanced capabilities, the system is designed to meet the growing needs of today’s hospitals and clinical laboratories. This highly complex, laboratory integrated analyzer was designed as a modular system which could be expanded to meet a variety of laboratory throughput requirements.

IDS contributed to the design of one of the most important and complex sections of this system, the input sample handling module. Details of how the design was conceived, developed and perfected are outlined in the case study.
