Coltene Whaledent contracted IDS to develop an attractive, low cost handheld UV curable light for dental reconstruction. The design expressed a balance between ergonomics, low cost, and a clean compact design. Easy and simple bulb replacement was a major design consideration. Efficient heat dissipation was cost effectively achieved with reliable standard boxer fans. The power module was housed in an attractive plastic base which was designed with a holster to support the light gun. An ergonomically placed trigger switch was included in the handle for accurate control of light placement. The product was offered in an array of transparent colors as well as more conventional white to satisfy a wide range of customer preferences.
