The DOBI Medical ComfortScan system was specifically developed as a diagnostic tool to aid in the early detection of breast cancer without the use of x-rays The ComfortScan is an advanced digital-imaging system that uses high-intensity light-emitting diodes and gentle external pressure to highlight areas with vascular abnormalities. The DOBI Medical technology is based on detecting tumor angiogenesis, or vascular change, the process whereby a cancerous growth surrounds itself with a dense network of tiny blood-filled capillaries. These vascular "feeding tubes" provide oxygen and nutrients to active tumors and are unique physiological "markers" that reveal the presence of cancer.
Integrated Design Systems assisted Dobi Medical in the development of this advanced medical device by engineering and detailing the entire physical embodiment of the system. Our design team designed everything from the disposable silicone membrane cassettes in the imaging head to the entire physical structure of the device. Our design team designed and engineered the sand cast base, sheet metal cabinet and all the plastic parts comprising the head and cabinet assemblies. Details for every part were completely methodized and defined for specific manufacturing processes. The entire development project was completed within two months for a major trade show when the product was officially unveiled to the public.
