Integrated Design Systems is very proud to be associated with Fonar and their UpRight® MRI Scanner. IDS was commissioned  to develop an enclosure this revolutionary new concept in MRI scanning which allows all parts of the body to be imaged with the normal weight of the body on the spine and other joints—an advantage that leads to a more accurate diagnosis. The main objectives of this project were very clear. The design was required to elegantly express this new technology as a state of the art device by providing the patient with maximum peripheral visual perception.

The creative and technical challenges for this project were very unique due to the extraordinary size and unusual shape of the scanner's massive 12” thick steel inner structure. Extensive user studies were conducted the IDS design team to investigate spatial depth perceptions of various volunteers within the confines of the scanner. These studies lead to the gracious curved surfaces flowing out from the confined area of the scanner.
