Parkell’s NEW Aurora S³ curing light features slim design and a low-profile head to reach anywhere, even posterior teeth of children and petite patients. Three powerful LED lights in the head along with a precision parabolic concentrated a light beam with a constant level of irradiance across a large 11mm curing spot. This compact curing light system doesn’t give off a lot of heat, which makes it comfortable for the patient and easy to handle for the doctor. The elegant design was developed to balance aesthetics with critical ergonomic requirements which are so important to dentists. In addition a carefully positioned custom designed button control provides the dentist with three pre-programmed curing modes. User needs and human factors were further improved with the inclusion of audible tones correlating to various curing cycles.

We designed the Aurora curing light for Parkell as a small handheld device capable of projecting a curing spot more than twice the size of traditional lights. It is used for zapping sealants, large occlusal restorations, laminates and crown preps sealed with bonding agents. Our objective was to develop a low cost handheld device that could be recharged and easily cleaned. Extensive human factors studies enabled us to refine the design for comfort to the dentist as well as the patient. This product represents another example of a design which closely integrates form and function into a highly successful product.
