Description

This article is a case study describing the design of a rotationally molded collapsible pallet. Pallets represent  the most common items within the material handling market. Collapsible pallets represent a subset of this market and have gained popularity dur to their efficient use of space when containers are empty. A rotationally molded pallet offers many benefits including high strength; light weight, corrosion resistance, and the ability to be cost effectively shaped in any form. Since pallets are heavily loaded, stacked, and constantly moved, structural integrity is a critical design consideration. The case study describes the importance of proper material selection, optimized ribbing and other design considerations essential for a successful product.
