IDS was first contracted by Palomar to assist in the development of an updated design of and existing product, the Estelux. Project objectives were extremely challenging and clearly defined as summarized below:

The new enclosure design had to look totally different from the current product without changing anything other than the front bezel. All of the internal components and their locations had to remain constant.
Investment in molds had to be restricted to extremely limited budgets.
The production introduction date was targeted at trade show which was only a few months from he project start date.
The design had to satisfy all of Palomar's manufacturing and assembly concerns.
The design had to be exciting, attractive and innovative.

Phase 1 - Research & Information Gathering

Product Analysis

Immediately after we were assigned this project, two members from IDS visited Palomar and thoroughly reviewed the existing product. CAD files of the current assembly and informative documents describing the product's features were obtained. The exterior features of the Estelux were meticulously analyzed. These features included the general layout of the current front bezel, the keypad, safety switches, and cable connectors.
