Lorad, now Hologic, assigned Integrated Design Systems the challenge of assisting their design team in updating their floor standing x-ray film ID flasher into a more compact updated product. The original flooring standing unit was outdated, large and expensive to manufacture. The ID flasher provided the technician with a reliable method of marking x-ray films with specific patient information entered through the keyboard. The exposed x-ray cassette would then be placed into the flasher receptacle and identified with patient information directly onto the film negative.

Integrated Design thoroughly analyzed the operation sequence of the existing product and documented all the critical steps associated with the identification procedure. This investigation was followed by assessing the internal components and new technology that was to be included into the new product. Numerous brainstorming meetings were conducted at Lorad to explore various design concepts for the new device which was ultimately manufactured as shown in this photograph.
